About Wild Geese Fibres

barb head shot web.JPG

I am a life-long knitter who took up spinning a couple of years ago. I began looking for breed-specific and rare breed yarns after having the pleasure of spinning the fibre. I discovered it was very difficult to find any yarn, and there was a limited selection of weights.  (If you are interested in learning to spin, and picking up a wheel, try Celeigh Wools in Millet Alberta…e-mail celeigh@telusplanet.net.  Marg Sjostrum is friendly, helpful and more than happy to share her extensive knowledge of spinning….2 hours of free lessons were included with my wheel)

I decided to start my own business, and try to fill this niche market. I purchase fleeces from small producers, and from people who are trying to preserve the rare breeds. My prices always reflect the cost for the fleece.  Most fleece comes from Western Canada, and all prices are in Canadian dollars.

By purchasing these fleeces, I feel I am helping to preserve these rare breeds by supplying some income to these dedicated people, and increasing awareness of the breeds and the lovely, special fibre they produce.

My fleece is processed by Praire Fibre Mills in Biggar Saskatchewan, an eco-friendly mini mill. They are an excellent mill. They listen, offer suggestions, and work hard to make each order what the customer wants. They have an extended menu of yarn they are able to produce, and are more than willing to try new ideas. If you are looking for a custom mill, I highly recommend them. (themill@sasktel.net)

The yarn is skeined by yardage, so the skeins may vary in weight. An average weight is listed on the product page. When an order is filled, if the weight is less than what is listed, a credit will be applied to your account. If it is more than what is listed, no additional charge will apply. Shipping on yarns is $2 per item, not to exceed $8 (I will credit you the amount back for orders if shipping charges exceed $8). Shipping on kits is slightly higher, but again the $8 maximum charge applies.

All the kits on this site are original designs. At this time, the designs are all Wild Geese designs. In the near future there will also be patterns from V.Knits.

We have a “Brag Page”. If you would like to have your completed project from our yarn showcased on this page, e-mail a .jpg with the description, and we will post it. Please include the designer information.

More yarn will be listed as it arrives from the mill, so check back often!

Thanks for looking at the site, and I hope you enjoy the eye candy.
